Blog Tour: Darkness Comes This Way

Darkness Comes This Way Author Interview
Today I got the chance to do an interview with Pixie Lynn Whitfield about her new book Darkness Comes This way....but first here is a little about the book

Zarah Duncan is a Guardian. It’s an elite job that protects humans and the untainted vampires from the real monsters: those lost to the bloodlust. Rogues infest the city. Missing humans, unsolved cases…Zarah knows what the real cause is and she’s been trained since childhood to destroy them.

But she has a haunting past that catches up one day. Zarah was Rogue once, and until her, no one else has ever cured from the poisoned state of mind before. She’s been labeled a miracle, and the mystery only builds. She gets the awful feeling there’s more to it than just a lucky magical come-back. There are deep, dark secrets being kept. Maybe her boss Nathanial knows something? When she gets paired with a partner, Draven Kinsley, it only adds more difficulty. He hates her and swears that with a single look, she’ll poison him. To make matters worse, her Rogue brother has to show up, and he brings with him a shocking announcement. What Zarah learns from him rocks her entire world upside down. She not only begins to question who and what she is anymore, but it can possibly change the Vampire race forever.

The scary part: someone else knows too…and they’ll do anything to get her special blood, spelling disaster for the humans that Guardians have secretly been protecting for decades. -Goodreads

So Lets Start this Interview!
1.How did you come up with your characters names?
They just came to me honestly. They picked their names is what I like to tell people. Haha. Zarah is a name I just particularly like though. One of the background characters though was purposely named after my brother because I love him and he asked me if he could have his name in the book.
2. How long did it take you to write Darkness Comes This Way?
A year and a half. Most of that year I had that dreaded thing called writer’s block. Once I broke free, I was finished within two months. The editing process is what always takes the longest. A few months at the least.
3. Do you plan on writing a sequel to Darkness Comes This Way?
Yes. It is a trilogy. The second book is expected around January of 2013, but there may be a possible early release in November or December depending on how editing and production go.
4. If you couldn't write, what would you do?
Something to do with history. I’m a major history geek. And I would continue my book blogging of course. And being a housewife.
5. Did you ever picture yourself as an author?
Yes. But it’s a dream to be a successful one. Since childhood, I’ve wanted to be a writer, to be published. I don’t care about fame and fortune. I just care about sharing my love and my characters and my stories with people who also love them.
6. Why did you decide to write about vampires
Vampires have always been a favorite creature of mine. They’re mysterious, dark, and can be crafted in so many ways.
7. What's your favorite vampire movie/novel
Now that’s a tough one. I can’t pick just one favorite. Favorite vampire movie(s): Underworld, Interview With A Vampire. Novels: True Blood, Vampire Academy, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, The Historian.
8. Did you do any research for your book?
No
9. Did you originally know how long you wanted your book to be
No. Fun Fact: Darkness Comes This Way was originally going to be a short story/novella, then led into much longer territory, then before I knew it became a novel, and now a trilogy. I had no idea it was going to expand like that from the start. Haha.
10. What can I expect your next book to be about?
There are a lot of twists and surprises coming in book two. Just be prepared. Your head might spin a bit. It’s setting up everything for the grand finale in book three.
Not counting the trilogy, there are other stand-alone projects to look forward to as well. A stand-alone YA Contemporary Romance, and a stand-alone YA Dystopian Horror. There aren’t any set release dates yet for these projects, but announcements in the near future so be on the lookout
